Beautiful and rare antique French single height bookcase, biblioteque or display cabinet. Classically Louis XV in style, this piece is elegant and a real show-stopper! Definitely antique, we would date the biblioteque to c1900. A biblioteque is a Bookcase, with mesh to front and/or sides to provide airflow for precious book collections.
This lovely French parquetry and bronzed biblioteque has open mesh to the top section of the doors, and fine inlaid timbers to form the parquetry panels. The piece is finished with extensive bronzed or ormolu-mounted metal decorations- even the geometric design to the top of the biblioteque is actually metal mounts! The piece has a lovely mellow tone and great warmth to the timber. The interior has two fully adjustable shelves, plus the base shelf, and more shelving could be added for greater storage.
This gorgeous piece is 165cm in height, 111cm wide in the body of the bookcase and 117cm at the widest point, and is 42cm deep.
This piece is in very good antique condition, though it has seen some wear. There is a split across the parquetry panel of one door and other age-related knocks. As with all antique furniture, age-appropriate wear and character marks should be expected.
